"In the summer of 1999 a group of fans on the old ABC message board decided to unite to support All My Children's David Hayward. In time, this group of women became friends and proposed starting a fan club for Vincent. Vincent stated he'd never wanted a fan club, feeling it strange for people to gather just to exalt him. Upon consideration, it was decided the group would come together to raise awareness and support for charitable organizations that are close to Vincent's heart. The fan club and website officially began in the Spring of 2000. One of our first recipients, Hope for New York, dubbed the group "Friends of Vincent Irizarry" and the name stuck. Friends Of Vincent Irizarry quickly became FOVI (pronounced FO-VEE) for short. Later it was learned that FOVI, in Latin, means to support or encourage. Vincent's hosts an annual Tea event presented by his fan club. Members also attend various events that Vincent participates in around the country to show support.
